SUMMARY:Understanding FBAs & BIPs: Empowering Parents to Support Positive Behavior in Public Schools
DESCRIPTION:\nTarget Audience: Parents and guardians of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) enrolled in Washington State public schools.\n\n\n\nJoin us for an informative 90-minute training session, including a dedicated Q&A, designed to empower parents and guardians in advocating for positive behavior support for their children in public schools presented by Kristin Ojala, BCBA, Ojala Educational and Behavior Consulting\n\n\n\nTraining Objectives:\n\n\n\nBy the end of this training, participants will be have a better understanding of how to:\n\n\n\n\nDefine and understand the purpose of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).\n\n\n\nIdentify and articulate their legal rights as parents regarding FBAs and BIPs under both the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Washington State law.\n\n\n\nDetermine when and how an FBA should be conducted.\n\n\n\nNavigate the timelines and processes involved in initiating and developing FBAs and BIPs.\n\n\n\nRecognize who is qualified to conduct FBAs.\n\n\n\nLearn effective strategies for addressing situations where an FBA request is denied or delayed by the school district.\n\n\n\n\nThis training will equip you with essential knowledge and practical tools to effectively support your child’s positive behavior and educational success.\n\n\n\n\nKristin Ojala, MA, LBA specializes in supporting individuals in school settings. She owns her own private practice focusing on educational consulting, behavior analysis, and forensic legal services. Kristin has spent many years collaborating with public and private school teams and ensuring compliant, legal and ethical behavior intervention plans and functional behavior assessments. She enjoys working with clients of all ages but especially enjoys children over the age of 8 and twice-exceptional clients. Clinically, she focuses on advanced verbal behavior and clients who benefit from ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy).\n\n\n\nKristin also recently became a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) with Snohomish County working with youth who are placed outside of their biological parents custody or are in the foster care system and hopes to become a Guardian ad Litum in the near future.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
