LifeSPAN takes a holistic approach that encompasses planning for many aspects of a person’s life, from housing to financial security, employment to education and recreation, friendship, and contribution. We invite families to take the time to come to know LifeSPAN as an organization and as a network of enthusiastic, compassionate, caring families and individuals (with and without disabilities) before purchasing services from LifeSPAN. Come meet us in person by attending LifeSPAN community events, such as our Summer BBQ and Holiday Party. Community events happen a few times a year, but if you’d like to connect more often, we invite you to our Good Life Support Meetings, which take place every one to two months. Check our Events Calendar to register for the next one. The next step may be to engage LifeSPAN to conduct a Future Planning Consultation with key members of your family, and, usually, the loved one with a disability. The Future Planning Consultation is a process that helps a family review the current state of affairs pertaining to their relative with a disability. It takes about two hours and uses a structured interview format. The LifeSPAN representatives who conduct the consultation produce a written report for the family.
If both the family and LifeSPAN believe that creating a LifeSPAN-facilitated Network would be beneficial, the Future Planning Consultation will be a key document for beginning the process of starting a Network for the family member with a disability. LifeSPAN offers this service to all families, regardless of whether they are planning to purchase facilitation services from LifeSPAN. The cost is $300. If you are interested in scheduling a Future Planning Consultation or to learn more about it, please email info@lifespan-wa.org.
From the Future Planning Consultation, you may become aware of specific areas of planning that you want to give more attention to at this time. The Good Life Support Meetings (see Events Calendar to register for the next one) are a good place to get more information and support to help you plan and take action. We also offer a variety of workshops on Financial Planning, Housing, etc. with other community partners. Check the Events Calendar to register.
