Types of Service

Fixed Routes provide service to designated bus stops using large transit buses.  All fixed route buses are wheelchair accessible.  For route and schedule information call (360) 676-7433, or use the Trip Planner on the home page.

Specialized Transportation offers curb-to-curb service for passengers unable to access WTA’s fixed route services due to a physical or mental disability.  Rides must be reserved by 5 pm on the day before you intend to travel.  In order to ride Specialized Transportation, you must first call WTA to establish your eligibility according to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.  Call (360) 733-1144 for more information.

Flex Service is a hybrid between fixed route and Specialized Transportation.  Flex buses serve fixed bus stops along their route but also “flex” off the route to pick up and drop off passengers closer to their starting place or destination.  Flexing occurs within a designated service area.  There are no eligibility requirements for using Flex service; anyone within the designated area can request a flex trip.  Requests must be made at least two hours in advance or by 5 pm the day before for morning service.  Call (360) 733-1144 to schedule a flex trip.

Safety Net provides limited transportation service to the rural areas of Whatcom County.  There are no eligibility requirements for using Safety Net service; anyone within the designated area can request a Safety Net trip.  Service is only available to each Safety Net Zone on certain days of the week.  Click here for a Safety Net Service Area Map. Rides must be requested by 5 pm the day before for morning service.  Call (360) 733-1144 to schedule a Safety Net trip.

Vanpools allow groups of people to “lease” a WTA-owned passenger van for the purpose of commuting to a common location.  Vanpool fares are based on the number of round trip miles used in daily travel.  For information on existing vanpools, or about starting a new vanpool, call (360) 752-4596.

Rideshare Online provides assistance in matching potential carpool partners.  The Rideshare program serves all counties along the I-5 corridor and is available online throughwww.rideshareonline.com.
