Description

Lewis County Head Start is a child focused, family centered early learning program.  We offer free services for eligible families with 3 - 5 year old children.  Services are available for most of Lewis County with centers in  Chehalis, Toledo, Salkum and Randle.  We are also able to offer transportation within our established bus routes.

Head Start is a federally funded comprehensive program providing services in the areas of Education & Early Childhood Development, Child Health & Development, and Family Services for income eligible families of preschool age children.  Head Start began as a part of the federal "War On Poverty" program of the 1960's.  Lewis County Head Start has been serving Lewis County families since 1986.Reliable Enterprises is the Grantee Agency for Lewis County Head Start.  As the grantee, Reliable Enterprises is the legal and fiscal agent for the program.  The Lewis County Head Start Director is responsible for day to day operations of the program.  The Policy Council, and elected group of parents and community representatives, meet once a month to assist in developing policy.  The Policy Council can best be described as an advisory board with limited veto power.
Program Design
The Lewis County Head Start program design concsists of: *  One administrative area ---administration office located in Centralia and

*   Four (4) educational areas --- centers located in Randle, Salkum, Toledo, and Centralia/Chehalis.

The program provides services to 185 children ages 3-5 years old and their families.  The center-based combination model provides classroom services for thirty seven (37) weeks per year: four (4) hours/day, three (3) days/week for 4 year olds; and three and a half (3.5) hours/day, two (2) days/week for 3 year olds.  Each family receives a minimum of four (4) one and a half (1.5) hour home visits and two (2) conferences per year.
