October was National Disability Employment Awareness Month. In recognition of this, Washington Autism Alliance reached out to our community to submit businesses that they know support employing people with disabilities. In 2022, the Bureau of Labor Statistics found that the unemployment rate for persons with a disability was about twice as high as the rate for persons without a disability. More than 10% of people in Washington state report having a disability.
As a society, we need to start looking for ways to change unemployment statistics for people with disabilities. It begins by supporting those businesses that support employing people with disabilities and connecting people with disabilities to resources and organizations that can help with finding employment.
Here is a list of businesses that were submitted to us as actively supporting the employment of people with disabilities:
- Town and Country Markets
- PCC Community Markets
- Microsoft
- Sensory Tool House
- Brooklyn Bros. Pizzeria
