ACTION ALERT: Push for SB 6070 to be heard

Help Bring Missing Endangered People With Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities Home Safely

Friends and Advocates of the 38th Legislative District,

We need your help to ensure Senate Bill 6070 is scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Ways and Means Committee. This critical public safety bill gives families and law enforcement the tools needed to quickly and safely locate missing endangered persons. Without support, this bill will not survive this session. Every vulnerable person deserves urgency, protection, and the chance to be brought home safely.

When someone who is vulnerable goes missing, time matters. SB 6070 ensures families and law enforcement have clear standards, narrow authority, and strong oversight to act quickly when lives are at risk—without expanding surveillance or weakening privacy protections. SB 6070 creates a Purple Alert, like an Amber or Silver Alert, but for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This Purple Alert allows communities across Washington to quickly know when a vulnerable person is missing and endangered, turning the public into extra eyes and helping families get their loved ones home safely.

Why SB 6070 Matters

  • Clear standards for danger
Families and law enforcement currently lack consistent guidance on when a missing person is truly endangered. SB 6070 clearly defines high-risk situations, including when someone has a developmental disability, dementia, serious mental health crisis, suicidal ideation, or other conditions that prevent safe self-care.
  • Faster action when it counts
The bill clarifies when courts may authorize rapid action to locate a missing endangered person, ensuring help is not delayed by uncertainty during life-threatening situations.
  • Focus on the most vulnerable
SB 6070 centers those at the greatest risk when missing, including minors, vulnerable adults, people with developmental disabilities, individuals experiencing acute mental health crises, and people with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias.
  • Strong guardrails and accountability
This bill includes strict limits on how tools may be used, requires court approval or rapid post-use judicial review in emergencies, limits data collection to what is necessary, and requires deletion of non-relevant information. The focus remains on recovery and safety, not surveillance.

Dear Senator Robinson,

My name is [Your Name], and I am a constituent from [City or Legislative District]. I am writing to respectfully urge you to schedule a hearing in the Senate Ways and Means Committee for SB 6070, legislation that supports the safe and timely recovery of missing endangered persons.

For families like mine, this bill is about safety, clarity, and bringing people home. Without a hearing, these protections cannot move forward this session.

I respectfully ask that SB 6070 be scheduled for consideration by the Senate Ways and Means Committee so lawmakers can evaluate its life-saving impact.

Thank you for your leadership and for your continued commitment to public safety and vulnerable Washingtonians.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]
[City or Legislative District]
