When autistic patients present depression symptoms, it could be something else. Autistic burnout is a term for the effects of overwhelm over a long period for neurodivergent people due to masking autistic traits. Autistic Burnout is internal and in many ways is the opposite of depression. It may especially affect autistic adults who have strong cognitive and language abilities and are working or going to school with neurotypical people. Loss of interests in special interests, executive functioning problems, and low mood are signs of burnout. Join us on May 22nd to learn more about Autistic burnout versus depression.
