Back to School Campaign
While the thought of returning to school brings excitement for some youth, it causes apprehension, anxiety, and sometimes depression for others, especially autistic children and with other developmental disabilities. Many parents do everything they can to help kids understand what to expect in the new school year, but even in spite of their best efforts, there can be a huge wave of anxiety as the new school year approaches.
Here at WAA, we are aware of this seasonal pattern and prepare for the increase of students and their families needing additional services and support. Requests for support spike in the fall and range from connecting a family to a mental health counselor in their area to helping a family advocate for additional classrooms. Whatever the need is, we are here, ready to try to help.
