Our quarterly Spectrum Respite & Recreation further strengthens families with teens & tweens with autism by giving the parents or caregivers a much-needed break. A dynamic group of volunteers bring supported recreational programming to youth tweens and teens with autism in a safe and calm environment.
Behavioral health staff oversee trained volunteers who are closely monitored and supported. Gift of Time staff and mentors provide a crucial sense of normalcy to the teens & tweens through shared joy
and respect. Pre-registration and admission is required prior to attendance. Please note – we need to get to know your child’s unique likes/dislikes and strength; identify the right volunteer mentor and ensure we have a very good fit prior to placing them with a volunteer.

The parents drop off their kids at 11:00 a.m. and the kids stay until 3:00 p.m. Multiple Sensory, gross & fine motor stations and activities keep the kids and volunteers engaged and busy: an art table with coloring, stickers, and clay; a sensory exploration table, a LEGO table, and a multimedia auditorium to watch favorite movies. There is also a large tent with bean bags and pillows to chill out on, a reading room, a media center to watch movies and play video games, and an activity area with various sized balls to play with, roll on, a trampoline and music to listen to.
The event is not possible without the help from our 25 amazing volunteers that came from Seattle Children’s Autism Center, Northwest Band of Brothers, Microsoft, University of Washington, Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, and our own WAAA volunteers. Thank you!
