Recovery Services are remarkably similar to compensatory services. They both are additional services designed for each IEP to address the lack of progress and regression. Extended School Year and Recovery Services are not the same things.
Each district needed to submit its Plan to OSPI by June 1st.
Have you developed your Child’s Annual IEP for 2021? The recovery service decision may need to occur before the 2021—22 school year, before the annual IEP review date, or at the upcoming annual review. Have you asked your district for their Recovery Plan Guide?
Parents do not wait to be contacted by your district to offer you recovery services.
“Family should not have to make a special request for this process to occur”, but “OSPI is not requiring districts to immediately schedule and hold IEP meetings for every student with an IEP”.
“The school districts must ensure parents have the information and support necessary to participate in the decision-making process.” It will be a good idea to ask your case manager for a breakdown of how IEP minutes are currently being counted for your student.
“What do Recovery Services may look like”?
· Additional in-person instruction before or after school or during school breaks
· Additional in-person therapy services before or after school or during school breaks
· Additional remote services before or after school, or during school breaks or
· Additional in-person structured play groups or peer social groups before or after school or during school breaks.
