A confident and enthusiastic volunteer, Liz Smith has been passionate about volunteering for Washington Autism Alliance (WAA) since 2019. That year, we helped Liz and her husband Brett with the arbitration process for ABA coverage for her son Matthias.
She started out by volunteering for our gala in 2020, and this year she is co-chair of our Day Out for Autism (DOA) 2022 committee. Liz is always willing to take on tasks that others can’t or won’t do, even as she has faced family loss and illness in these past few months.
When I asked Liz what drives her passion for WAA and her decision to co-chair our DOA committee, she responded:
“I support WAA because I know that together we can make a difference in the lives of children with autism. My son Matty is on the autism spectrum. From the time we received his diagnosis, we have advocated for his rights and the autism community around us.
The opportunity to help WAA and Day Out for Autism sounded like the perfect match for me. I love building a support system. What a great honor is to give back to WAA, which has changed so many lives through philanthropy and love.
Day Out for Autism will offer numerous connections and resources to the autism community. So please, join us! Every little bit helps!”
Not only does Liz volunteer for WAA, she also volunteers for her local Parent Teacher Association. In her spare time, she enjoys her book club and exploring Washington’s forests and beaches with her family. A resident of this state for 10 years, she was born and raised in Mexico City. Parent volunteers like Liz are vital to our work at WAA.
