One of the good things that came out of the pandemic was setting up a system for people to participate in hearings, work groups and the legislative process virtually, from their computers & smart phones, from anywhere with WiFi and cellular access!!! This means you can get involved in more ways than even before. Below are some of the legislative priorities for our community:
- Prevent drastic cuts to vital programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities including autism (our state is facing a $10B budget deficit)
- Prevent Inappropriate Hospital Boarding
- Abolish Isolation and Restrict Restraint Against Children with Disabilities
- Allow parent caregivers of minor children to be employed as paid caregivers
- Promote fair labor practices, equitable compensation, and comprehensive support systems for parent caregivers
We can only achieve these priorities if you would lend us your voices and a few minutes of your time each week. Below are ways you can get involved.
In gratitude,
Arzu Forough - President and CEO, Washington Autism Alliance
