The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) President, Dr. Susan J. Kressly, has issued a statement in response to a recent Washington Post article. The article revealed that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) had hired David A. Geier, a known vaccine skeptic, to examine existing data on vaccines and autism.
Dr. Kressly strongly countered Geier's views, emphasizing that numerous, credible scientific studies have consistently found no causal link between vaccines and autism. She expressed deep concern over the HHS's decision and urged the government to actively promote the safety and efficacy of vaccines, particularly in light of the ongoing measles outbreak. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has also affirmed the AAP's stance, stating unequivocally that vaccines do not cause autism. We share Dr. Kressly’s concerns: “any effort to misrepresent decades of research that has found no link between vaccines and autism “poses a threat to the health of children and our nation.”
