Training Objectives:
By the end of this training, participants will be have a better understanding of how to:
- Define and understand the purpose of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Identify and articulate their legal rights as parents regarding FBAs and BIPs under both the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Washington State law.
- Determine when and how an FBA should be conducted.
- Navigate the timelines and processes involved in initiating and developing FBAs and BIPs.
- Recognize who is qualified to conduct FBAs.
- Learn effective strategies for addressing situations where an FBA request is denied or delayed by the school district.
This training will equip you with essential knowledge and practical tools to effectively support your child’s positive behavior and educational success.

Kristin Ojala, MA, LBA specializes in supporting individuals in school settings. She owns her own private practice focusing on educational consulting, behavior analysis, and forensic legal services. Kristin has spent many years collaborating with public and private school teams and ensuring compliant, legal and ethical behavior intervention plans and functional behavior assessments. She enjoys working with clients of all ages but especially enjoys children over the age of 8 and twice-exceptional clients. Clinically, she focuses on advanced verbal behavior and clients who benefit from ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy).
Kristin also recently became a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) with Snohomish County working with youth who are placed outside of their biological parents custody or are in the foster care system and hopes to become a Guardian ad Litum in the near future.
