Newly approved billing codes for ABA

4For the past several years Association of Behavior Analysis International (ABAI) has been working with the American Medical Association (AMA) to establish new billing procedures for applied behavior analysis (ABA) and related services for children and youth with autism.

As a result, there are newly approved AMA Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Category III codes intended for billing ABA services. These new codes define procedures and services performed by behavior analysts. Codes will be implemented on Tuesday, July 1, 2014.

ABAI is drafting a letter about these new codes (CPT III tracking codes 0359T-0374T) that professional behavior analysts (licensed or board certified) will be able to send to insurers requesting coverage, though these codes may or may not be covered by insurers at this point.

ABAI is  helping educate ABA practitioners about proper preparation of claims for processing purposes. Updates are available on the CPT code information page as they occur. Please note that access is only available to current ABAI members, who will be asked to log in to their portal to review.

For more information please contact ABAI directly by phone: (269) 492-9310 or via email: mail@abainternational.org .
